ABOUT US

Carlos Dinarés is from Barcelona. Before coming to the U.S., Carlos competed for Spain in three World Championships, managed the Catalan Rowing Federation for eight years, and organized the 2004 World Rowing Championships.

He began coaching in Spain and currently is in his fourth year coaching at the University of Washington and second year at the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle. Carlos holds a degree in sport science from the University of Barcelona and an M.B.A. from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He has developed ROWSMARTER to provide a new approach to rowing coaching.

Julie Dykema is a native Chicagoan. She won a U.S. National Title in the 8+ while training at Penn A.C. in 1997, and a Spanish National Title in the 4x in 2002.

Julie now rows with her husband, Carlos, in Seattle, where they live. Julie holds a degree in English literature from Northwestern University and is currently working on her doctorate in bilingualism at the University of Washington. She speaks four languages and has taught English in Spain, France, and the U.S.
